Field View Farm has been in the Hine family since 1639.  Run by Walter and Dorothy Hine and their son, they are said to have some of the best ice cream in the area — even Stew Leonard, the dairy “king,” says it’s excellent.

Once a thriving dairy farm, the Hines suffered a devastating barn fire nearly a decade ago that forced them to cut down their operation considerably and find other ways to make a living.  They make ends meet by hauling materials through their trucking company, Field View Farm Transportation Inc.

Walter planted and maintains the corn field on the Stew Leonard’s property and helped plow and plant the fields at the Massaro Farm near the Derby town line.

At Field View Farm they sell ice cream, hay and sweet corn.  It’s a great place to wrap up the Orange Open Farms Day, as the family milks their cows daily at 4:30 pm.  The ice cream shop is open in the summer from 10 am - 8 pm.
